Creative Solutions Labs 

February 5th - 8th, 2018 | Four working group sessions on the same topics as the Social Equity meetings will build on the framework of the goals and outcomes generated during the Equity Working Group Meetings. Attendees will study analyses of technical data, best practices and recommendations, and discuss possible policies to achieve the outcomes identified at the Social Equity meetings.


Neighborhood Design Sessions

February 10th, 11th, 13th, 2018 | Attendees will discuss urban design concepts for three neighborhoods (Central Core including the Black Arts Movement & Business District, Uptown/Art + Garage District and Old Oakland/Chinatown) that address community input received and reflect analysis of the built environment, and their relationship to goals and outcomes identified in the Social Equity Working Group Meetings; topics will include land use, building height, and building form.

Creative Engagement Activities: Launch Artists-as-Ethnographers

July - August, 2017 | Oaklanders will learn about programs and policies that directly impact Downtown Oakland and will share their ideas, needs, and concerns through creative engagement activities such as videography.


Community-Led Workshops and Events

July - August, 2017 | Community leaders, supported by project staff, will meet with their respective communities to learn about their ideas, needs, and concerns, teach their friends and neighbors about how planning in the downtown affects their lives, and let them know how they can get involved in the process to develop a plan for the Downtown.

Community Leader Capacity-Building Workshops

June 12th + 15th, 2017 | Community leaders from underrepresented communities will be invited to build content knowledge and resources to facilitate community engagement sessions, engage others on the Downtown Oakland Specific Plan, and participate in future planning activities.
